What are the main types of farms in Singapore?

Our farms can be categorised as land-based and sea-based:

Land-based Farms

Land-based farms can be indoor or outdoor, for aquaculture (e.g. shrimp and fish) or agriculture (e.g. vegetables and eggs). Land-based farms can also include urban farms, such as rooftop farms and vertical farms.

Most outdoor land-based farms are located in Lim Chu Kang and Sungei Tengah, while indoor farms are in industrial zones across Singapore.

Sea-based Farms

Sea-based farms are mainly fish farms, with some farming of molluscs and crustaceans.

Sea-based farms may be in the open sea or along the coast. Coastal fish farms capitalise on Singapore's coastal areas, using nearshore waters for aquaculture.

Currently, all of our coastal net cage farms and closed-containment floating farms are located in the Johor Straits.

Are agricultural farms in Singapore land-based or sea-based?

Agriculture is the cultivation of crops and rearing of animals for food production. In Singapore, agricultural farms are land-based and can be found outdoors, indoors, or on rooftops.
