Responsibilities of Licensed Farms

Licensees of farms must ensure food is safe for human consumption, and must comply with the conditions of licence. 

For example, licensees of vegetable farms are not permitted to use unregistered pesticides. Any pesticides used must be registered, as these have been evaluated by SFA. 

Poultry farms must also implement all necessary biosecurity measures to prevent the introduction and spread of animal diseases that may affect the productivity of primary produce.

Licensees of farms are also responsible for keeping their licence details up to date. For example, when there is a change in contact number, licensees must update SFA.

Farm licensees must also get approval from SFA when they want to change their farm’s layout or licensed activities as such changes might impact food safety or require additional licences. Failure to do so can result in enforcement action. 

Remedial/corrective actions, or movement control may be imposed. For example, if the licensee of a vegetable farm wants to add food fish farming using aquaponics, they must seek approval from SFA before doing so.
